What happens on spring break, stays on spring break | New home

I took a mini poll yesterday on my Instagram asking my followers to like this photo if they wanted me to dive into some details about my insane, unplanned shopping spree yesterday. Whether this picture got one like or one million, I totally planned on doing this not-so-mini haul so that you all could judge me and publically shun me for going way too overboard. I mean, honestly, a week off of work, a new home to decorate, money in my pocket – what did we expect to happen?

*spoiler alert: I got way more than what’s shown in my featured photo*

What’s going to happen here is I am going to break down my day exactly as it occurred – I will explain each piece, why I wanted them [or felt I needed them], the price, and what store they came from. I am going to try to do my absolute best to keep them not only in order of stores visited, but in order of what I found first, second, third, etc. This post is going to be extremely long, so go ahead and make a cup of coffee, grab a snack, and fasten your seatbelts; you and I are going to be in for a wild ride!

Rae Dunn Mugs – $4.00 each – TJ Maxx

I have a vision to put a little coffee bar/corner in our new place, so having a set of mugs that can be displayed and match perfectly was a must for me. I’ve had my eye on the entire Rae Dunn brand for a while, and when I caught wind some time ago that pieces were often sold at discount stores like TJ Maxx, I got excited to begin this search. Now, I will be completely honest with you, I did not go into TJ Maxx with the purpose of finding anything, or even having Rae Dunn in mind. It kind of just happened. I decided on two mugs with larger font, and two mugs with the smaller font so that while they were different, they were still basically the same. Plus, I’ve seen these mugs online for $10.00+ so naturally, at this low price, I had to buy more than two, right?

Rae Dunn Serving Platter – $12.00 – TJ Maxx

Now, did I really need a serving dish? Probably not. I picked this platter up and put it down probably six times, and was undoubtedly making the other shoppers angry because I was practically staked out in front of the display where this was homed. I had a few ask me to move a few times, I’m not going to lie, but I really couldn’t decide. I did so much as text my mom [adulting. . am I right?] to ask her if I really needed this, or if it was a stupid purchase. With her support, I decided, the hell with it, and I got it anyway. When I got back to my car, I was looking for this exact piece online, and it made me even happier with my decision when I found out that it’s up for sale on Mercari for $61.00! I’ve been nonstop thinking of how or if I want to display this piece in our kitchen, so stay tuned for updates like that, or how we even decide to use this.

Inspirational Sign – $3.00 – TJ Maxx

I would have paid the sticker price of $8.00 for this piece, but luck was on my side, because it was on clearance for an even lower price of $3.00! I am somewhat convinced it was on clearance because there is an extremely small chip in the back, but its the back, so who the hell cares? What I liked almost the most about this piece is that it is extremely heavy. By no means does it feel cheap or look cheap. Again, I don’t really have a plan for where this piece will go, but it’s one I really couldn’t pass up, even with my boyfriend’s hatred for inspirational signs. It’s made me not able to justify paying high prices for pieces like this, because TJ Maxx had such cute ones for all under $10.00!

25 Non-Slip/Velour Hangers – $5.00 each – TJ Maxx

Yes, you read that right. I got 50 non-slip hangers for $10.00! I don’t really know if I will need 50 hangers, but I totally couldn’t justify passing these up for the price. Plus, too many is better than not enough, right? *I don’t really have much else to say about these because, come on, they’re hangers!*

TableCraft Stainless Steel Box Grater – $3.00 – TJ Maxx

Again, another boring purchase, but something that we didn’t already have and I don’t know if we will ever really need. It’s extremely small which made me want it even more because mini versions of big products get me every single time. They’re just so much cuter and I need them all. I’m sorry I’m like this.

Fieldcrest Shower Curtain – $8.98 – Target

For the record, I went into Target for a shipping envelope. Naturally, I came out with more than I wanted or needed, but I got it anyway. I found this white pleated shower curtain in the clearance section on my way to the cash registers to check out [damn you, Target. . I was so close]. This product was originally priced at $29.99 and I got it for under $9.00. I mean, come on. The Target spell got me and I got a shower curtain that we don’t really need, but now we have it anyway. Plus it’s white which makes it even better because white is good for the soul.

Hearth and Hand with Magnolia Stoneware Sugar Cellar Cream and Sugar Canisters – $5.99 each – Target

Another addition to my coffee bar vision. I didn’t want a giant cream or sugar canister because I am the only one who uses cream and sugar in my coffee, and I know that the cream canister won’t always be practically used. I thought these were reasonably priced, good size, and aesthetically pleasing, so I went ahead and bought them. Did I really think I was going to make it out of Target with just the shipping envelope I needed?

Chesapeake Bay Mind & Body Candle: reflection + clarity sea salt sage – $5.99 – Target

As I previously mentioned on the blog, I bought a shelf for our bedroom that perfectly matched our bedding. I picked up this candle because I was on the hunt for things to put on this shelf that matched, looked cute, and weren’t too heavy. I hit the nail right on the head with this one. This candle is small, the perfect shade of blue to match our bedding, and will look great plopped atop the shelf I previously bought at Kohl’s. Again, not necessary, but at this point I was caught up in my spending spree and could not be controlled.

Rae Dunn Large Canisters – $14.00 each – Marshalls

This is where things started to get out of control. I had a plan to meet my mother for lunch, but after my morning spending, I found myself with another hour to kill and didn’t really want to drive back home to go back in the same direction an hour later. So, off I headed to Marshalls to waste some time and wander around the outlet mall for a bit. Well, I did very little wandering and didn’t venture into the rest of the mall because I lost total control of my mind and body in Marshalls when I saw two entire walls of Rae Dunn merchandise. The first two pieces I picked up were these large canisters – one for flour, the other for cookies. What I like most about these pieces is that they are taller than they are wide, so they won’t take up a lot of space, which is ideal! When I found the cookie jar, I actually let out a giant gasp in the middle of the store. People started to stare but I didn’t care. Not only was it perfectly labeled “STASH.” but it got more perfect when the blue trim around the bottom of the cookie jar perfectly matched my ice blue KitchenAid Mixer. It was too aesthetically pleasing for me to handle and I put them in my cart so fast that I am flabbergasted that they made it home safely in one piece. I ended up finding the STASH. cookie jar/canister on Mercari for $21.00 and the flour jar on Mercari for $45.00, so thanks Marshalls. You’re the real MVP.

Rae Dunn Box Sign/Desk Paperweight – $4.99 – Marshalls

Did I need another inspirational sign? Nope. Did I get this anyway? You bet! Plus, it’s double sided so you’re really getting two things for the price of one, making this box sign it’s own special bargain. I ended up finding this exact piece on Amazon for around $18.00 so, again, I felt better with my purchases after I learned how much I was actually saving in the process of overspending.

Rae Dunn Think Canister – $4.99 – Marshalls

I am pretty sure this piece is supposed to be used on a work desk to store pens, scissors, etc., but I have plans of using this as a mini vase for either some flowers or succulents! I went back and forth with whether or not I should get this piece, but I went for it because, quite frankly, I was already deep into a hole that I dug myself and there wasn’t really any turning back now. I found the exact piece on Mercari for $21.00 and, you guessed it, that’s another bargain in the books! My sweat levels at this point went down a bit by justifying the fact I really did save money, and maybe I didn’t really have a shopping problem.

Isaac Jacobs 4×6 Picture Frame – $3.00 – Marshalls

I want to start off this snippet by saying whoever works at Marshalls and put the sticky price tag on the front of this frame – you suck! This is another piece I picked up to maybe place on our new bedroom shelf, or an end table somewhere in our place. I’ve seen similar frames to this one at Target for $15.00+ which I think is extremely high, so when I saw it at this low price, I decided to grab it.

So, there you have it. That’s everything I managed to tell myself I needed yesterday. If you made it to the end of this post while still keeping full-sanity, congratulations! You are a trooper! If you’re any good at math and were somehow keeping track during this post, you’d know that I spent just over $100.00 for everything featured in this post. So, yes, $100.00 isn’t the cheapest shopping haul in the world, however, for 18 items, [some of them extremely, extremely, discounted], I would say my day filled of shopping yesterday was nothing short of a success!

If you like what you see, or even if you don’t – let me know your feelings! I love having conversations about home goods – hence me repeatedly texting my mother in the middle of the store asking if I really need these things or not, etc. –  so I’d love to know what you have to say! Do you think I need more? Less? Do we have the same taste?

Until next time, my friends. xoxo.

Unplanned Target haul

To be completely honest, I could probably do unplanned Target hauls at least once a week. Every time you enter those doors, it seems like a million items end up in your cart without even thinking twice about them, and sooner or later, you are sucked in and $500 poorer. I don’t know what it is, but I know everyone out there can relate. Don’t even try to deny it.

Most recently, I went to Target with my Mom, as she had to pick up some things, and of course, I ended up going a little overboard with my own purchases. Did I need everything that I bought? No the hell I did not. Did I get it anyway? Yes the hell I did. I did so much as laugh for the entirety of this trip because my Mom’s main goal of this Target run was to get stuff for Easter baskets [yes, we still celebrate Easter!] and made the comment, “I don’t want to get too much candy this year.” But, sooner or later she spent over $100 on bags of chocolate and jellybeans and baskets and other knickknacks for Easter. I told you, you can’t deny the spell Target casts on you. If you’re interested in seeing what I personally bought at Target, stick around, because the rest of this post is for you!

  • 2 Nerds Easter Rope [$1.00 each]
  • Nerds Bumpy Jelly Beans [$2.69]
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs [2 for $6.00 promotion]
  • Hershey’s Milk Chocolate with Pretzel Bits Eggs [2 for $6.00 promotion]
  • 2 Kinder Joy Eggs [$1.39 each]
  • Animal Adventure Puddle Jumper stuffed baby chick [$9.99]
  • Ferrero Eggs [$3.50]
  • Buzzy Grow Kit Farm Animal pig [$2.00]
  • 6 light up bunny batons [$1.00 each]
  • Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli [$8.24]
  • Rose gold and silver Easter basket [$3.00]
  • La Croix Coconut Sparkling Water [$3.69]

As I am sure you can make by the contents of my cart, most of the items I bought were for an Easter basket! I was also extremely thrilled to snag the last copy of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda because I really want to read this book before I go and see the movie. The last copy in the store was tucked in the back of the book section, totally not where it was supposed to be. So, after being discouraged thinking they were completely sold out, I was so excited to find the final copy! I already started reading it and can’t wait to dive into my opinion on this book on the blog in the near future!

What are some things you’ve picked up at the store lately? xoxo.

Really, another Target haul?!

Yes, you read correct. Another Target haul.

This post is to make up for my lack-of blog post yesterday due to me finishing all of my school work late last night and into this morning for the rest of my life! What better way to celebrate the forever-end of school than waking up at 5:30am to finish up final assignments and taking yourself to Target at 8am to celebrate?! [If you think I am totally psychotic. . your answer is correct].

Truth be told, my Christmas shopping was done on Black Friday. However, I woke up this morning exhilarated by the fact that, “holy shit, it’s almost Christmas!” and was way too excited and overjoyed that it is the holidays that I couldn’t even contain myself. Honestly, as lame as it sounds, I felt like I was jumping out of my own skin and had to be a part of the Christmas shopping madness, even though I was done. This annoying over-excitement could be due to either the fact that I was up at 5:30am, or the fact that I used my free Starbucks drink on a venti Carmel Brulee latte.

Anyways, I went to Target on a mission to find things for a DIY gift [SPOILER ALERT: find this on the blog next week!!]. Naturally, I got all that I needed and then some – what is it about Target that just sucks you in and makes you think that you need stuff that doesn’t even logically belong in your life?!

If you are interested to see in what the heck I bought during this caffeinated Target blackout, scroll right on down because the remainder of this post is for you!

When doesn’t Ulta Beauty drain my bank account?. . a memoir

I will start off this post by saying that technically I didn’t go into Ulta to shop for myself. However, some of the deals on Black Friday were a teensy bit too good for me to pass up and naturally, I had to make a purchase.

It is no secret to anyone on this blog that I have a new-found love for makeup. While I rarely wear makeup Monday thru Friday thanks to my often increased levels of sweat at my job, I am no stranger to it on the weekends, or even to evening events, dates, whenever I want to feel good about myself, etc.

Fast forward to the information that actually matters.. my Ulta shopping haul. I will make it known right here and now that until I got to the cashwrap and saw the massive display of Morphe Cosmetics, I only had one thing in my shopping bag. But, thanks to some peer pressure from my boyfriend to “treat myself on your first Black Friday,” here we are with enough makeup to do a mini-store haul.

Item #1: Smashbox Studio to Go Eyes

This $10 bundle was way too good to pass up, mostly because never in my life have I tried anything from Smashbox, but also because getting a $27 value for $10 is incredible. In this mini bundle, you receive a 0.06oz Photo Op Eye Shadow Single in the shade Nude, as well as a 0.02oz Deluxe Size Always on Gel Liner in Fishnet (black). Since I bought this bundle, I have worn this on my eyes every single day. The shadow goes on so smoothly and is so pigmented, and the liner is absolutely to die for – they weren’t kidding when they said it was weightless. I am looking forward to purchasing, for sure, the gel liner in full-size once this mini runs out!

Item #2 : NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream 3 Piece Set

NYX SOFT MATTE LIP CREAM IS MY FAVORITE LIP PRODUCT TO DATE. Did I need the unnecessary caps lock? Yes, yes I did because I need to get the point across to you that not only is this product super affordable, but it stays on all day, feels weightless as ever, and the colors are so pigmented that you feel as if you are wearing a high-end lip product. This bundle was $12, saving $6 from its’ $18 value. Ulta had a wide array of trios available, but my eye went directly to the one I purchased as every single shade of these 0.27oz lippies were new! Austin (a pink shade), Los Angeles (a brown shade), and Warsaw (a purple shade), are all everyday-appropriate and products that I will for sure grab for when I go to complete my look.

Item #3 and #4: Morphe 25A Copper Spice and 25B Bronzed Mocha Eyeshadow Palettes

I combined these two items together solely for the fact that what I say about one will directly mimic the other. The Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette was the first product I’ve ever purchased from this brand and, I swear to you on my life, that I have never reached for another eyeshadow palette ever again. Every other palette I own has been pushed aside or tucked away in makeup storage due to their sub-par quality as compared to Morphe’s pigment, bendability, and creamy color. So, much to my [pleasant] surprise, when I saw Morphe at the cashwrap, it all went down. I picked up these two eyeshadow palettes for a discounted price of $12 a piece. I fell head-over-heels in love with these palettes. The 25A Copper Spice Eyeshadow Palette (top photo) ranges from deep browns and spicy cream shades to fiery metallic and shimmery taupe shades. This palette is perfect for either an extremely neutral to an all out smoky look. The 25B Bronzed Mocha Eyeshadow Palette (bottom photo) ranges from glimmering bronze shades to rich mocha and burgundy shades while having the perfect balance of matte and shimmer. This wide range allows for looks that fit perfectly for any occasion or any lifestyle.

What are some of your most-recent makeup finds? xoxo.

Target haul!

Today I went a little too crazy at Target [as seen on Instagram]. Not that today was really any different from my usual Target run with getting more than I planned, but this time, overboard really is the only way to describe it. I ran in for two simple things: mascara and razors. What did I leave with? Well, stick around, and you’ll soon find out!

  • e.l.f. HD Powder in the shade sheer
  • e.l.f. Daily Brush Cleanser
  • e.l.f. Lip Primer & Plumper in the shade neutral/clear
  • L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara in the shade blackest black
  • Crest White Strips
  • Razors
  • 6 pumpkin favor bags from the dollar spot
  • A pumpkin candy dish from the dollar spot
  • M&Ms White Pumpkin Pie candies
  • M&Ms Cookies & Scream candies
  • American Greetings Halloween sticker pack
  • 3 bags of “trick or treat” size candy bags

I purchased the same candy dish last year, but the ghost, with my boyfriend for his apartment. On one our most recent trips to Target together, we purchased, again, the same candy dish – this time the vampire. When I saw the pumpkin today, I knew I had to buy it for my mom, as she always keeps a candy dish out in the house.

Much to my surprise, the “trick or treat” size bags of Halloween candy were 40% off! It was a “today only” deal, so of course I had to buy more than one bag to ensure that my family and I had enough to pass out on Halloween, along with enough to bring my kiddos to school!

Perfectly enough, the little pumpkin favor bags [they had other patterns available] were only $1! They will be filled with the sticker sheets and candy for my students – cute, cheap, and easy! Every teacher’s dream!

Of course, every Target run is not complete without an iced beverage from Starbucks. This time, my second PSL of the season. How does one break the trend of being a “basic white girl” when everything fall is just soooo good?

Have you picked up anything good from Target recently? xoxo.

Target: Every girl’s best + worst nightmare.

“I only need one thing, but I’ll grab a cart just in case.” — Me

Ladies, ladies ladies. I know I’m not alone when I say that I am unhealthily obsessed with none other than the wonderful superstore that is Target.

I would be lying to you if I said that I was not there at least twice a week. I know, I’m sick. When people tell me they prefer other stores to Target, I literally go as far as to question their mental stability. How is this possible?

Just yesterday I went to Target for one thing, a Christmas gift bag [since of course I am always 12 steps behind]. Mind you, the entire Christmas/Holiday collection at Target is 50–90% off, making this gift bag a whopping — wait for it — 90¢. I should have walked out of there spending under $1. But did I? Of course not!

I was on my merry way to the self-checkout, basket in tow, ready to scan my things and move on with my day. From the time I picked up the 90¢ gift bag to the time I got to the checkout machine, I honestly think I blacked out. Well, not think. Know. I know I did. All the sales had my adrenaline pumping to the max, and I lost all self control. $67 later, I have added a turtleneck, nail polish, hand and foot warmers, a bag of ground coffee, a set of earrings, trail mix and a plethora of other goodies to my basket. I didn’t even want this stuff, but I needed it all, and walked out 3 full bags later.

I can go into Walmart, Hobby Lobby, or even Wegmans and walk out with exactly what I need. In and out, no questions asked. But 9 times out of 10, I not only leave Target with shit I don’t need, but also forget the sole item I was looking for, only resulting in yet another Target run. It is a vicious cycle, and I love every second of it. Target is a drug and I am a full-blown addict. Is it the dollar section? The crazy sales? The Cartwheel app? The ever-so-cute home decor? How about the clothes? I don’t know what it is, but my room is too full and my pockets are too empty.

I can’t be the only one wound up in this madness. I know there are more of you out there that are addicted like me. With that being said, happy shopping to all my fellow Target lovers. I know how you feel.

And to Target, I love you. I’m sure I will see you soon.
