Faves and flops | Beauty edition

In the past couple months, I’ve dove into everything from ride or dies to clearance finds to hyped up beauty products. I’m always down to try something new when it comes to beauty products, so naturally, in my search of finding products to add to my daily morning routine, I will find products that I am not a huge fan of. It’s a rarity that I shop high end makeup. If we’re being completely honest, the amount of high end beauty products that I own are less than five. With that being said, I feel like I am more likely to run into more products that are more of a flop than anything because, really, you get what you pay for.

Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder: 003 Natural

I wanted so badly to like this powder. I tried the transition from loose powder to pressed and I had some success with e.l.f in this domain with their $6.00 Perfect Finish HD Powder. One thing, though, that I didn’t like about the e.l.f. product is that it gave off a white cast in the rare occasion that I found myself in the presence of flash photography. With that being said, I tried the shift to the Rimmel pressed powder because it had a slight, natural, tint to it. And for $3.99 at Target I figured I’d give it a try in hopes that it would be a cheap success. I really liked this product initially, but as I used it more and more, it became increasingly difficult to get product out of the compact and onto my powder brush. I eventually hit pan in the center of the compact, but the outer ridges were completely hard and impossible to work with. I went so far as try to scrape a top layer off, but I am telling you.. this product would not budge, thus turning this product into a flop, and one that I would not purchase again.

Sonia Kashuk Eye Palette: 10 Perfectly Neutral

I picked this item up in clearance at Target back in January for $7.14. While you can’t get these products online anymore [maybe there’s still some floating around in clearance??] due to the whole Sonia Kashuk rebrand that occurred recently, its okay. Because, really, you aren’t missing out. The only shade I enjoy in this palette is the white shade that happens to be hidden by the clearance tag in my original post. I reach for it as an all-over lid shade to set my concealer/eyeshadow primer. The other five shades, though, are a total pass for me. They have little to no pigment, and the product is hard to pick up. I’ve tried going in with a makeup brush, I’ve tried going in with my finger, I’ve tried wetting the brush, everything. This product simply does not work unless you are going for a super-natural, totally un-pigmented look. I can’t imagine paying the original price of $14.49 for this product, but because I got it for nearly half off, I am not too upset by this flop.

NYX Professional Makeup Total Control Drop Foundation: Light Ivory

I tried this product a long time ago. Long meaning it was the second foundation I ever purchased almost two years ago, and I didn’t really love or hate it. Overall, it was just meh to me and I didn’t think twice about it and moved on to the next product I wanted to try. Within the last six months or so, I went back to this product, repurchased it, and tried it again, as I didn’t really know why I had no feelings on it. For $13.99 I do not think this product is worth it. While it gives you the ability to go from sheer to full coverage, by the time you get the look you want, you’ve either used half the bottle or your face feels like it weighs 800-pounds. I also found it somewhat difficult to blend out and more times than not, my skin was left looking uneven and patchy in places. And the whole dripping thing? I found it to be more of a hassle than anything. I will say, though, that the color match was outstanding for me but overall, I wouldn’t go for this again.

I am now going to save this post by ending it on a positive note with makeup products that I have totally fallen in love with lately, and are making their way to becoming some of my ride or dies in my beauty routine.

Sonia Kashuk Makeup Blender Sponge: Marble

I will start off this little snippet by saying, I hate buying makeup blending sponges. More times than not, these products are so expensive, and I tend to overuse them past the point of when I should probably be buying a new one for sanitary purposes. So, recently, the time had come and I couldn’t fathom doing my makeup another day with my old, overused blending sponge. Off to Target I went where I picked up a beauty sponge by Sonia Kashuk for $7.00. Now, I have only been wearing foundation consistently for a year-and-a-half-ish, so I am no pro when it comes to the best beauty sponges in the world. However, this makeup blender is amazing. It is so soft, while still remaining perfectly firm, and applies makeup beautifully. I find myself not having to use as much product, as this sponge distributes any amount of makeup evenly, and leaves you with a lighter, natural-feeling face. I am so happy I chose this one from the wall of beauty sponges because it does not disappoint [or break the bank]!

Wet n Wild MegaSlicks Lip Gloss

Hoooooly cow, guys. This is the best lip gloss in the world! I ran into RiteAid to print some pictures and decided to look through their makeup selection because, honestly, I never go to RiteAid [or Walgreens for that matter] even though there are at least 5 within a short distance from my house. I always wondered where beauty gurus found all these Wet n Wild products because my local Target has the crappiest selection for Wet n Wild in the entire universe. I ended up picking up two of these lip glosses, as they were buy one get one 50% off, and for a starting price of $2.49, that means I got two lip glosses for under $4.00! I got the shades Rose Gold and Bronze Berry. I am totally not a gloss girl – I hate the sticky feeling, and the hassle that comes with your hair always somehow getting stuck to your lips. This formula, though, is above the rest. It is comfortable, not sticky, and adds the perfect amount of a juicy shine. The berry shade I apply when I want more of a dressy, statement lip without being too bold and in your face. The rose gold shade, however, I wear every. single. day. I am not even exaggerating, I have already done some damage to this tube and will have to be buying a replacement sooner or later. It is the perfect shade, it goes with everything, and adds the perfect amount of shine and color while still remaining semi-neutral. I am a new fan of this brand and can’t wait to get my hands on more of their products in the future!

Ardell Deluxe Pack Eyelash Kit: 110 Black

Being the wannabe beauty guru that I am, I have worn fake eyelashes twice in my lifetime. Both occasions, falling on the weeks of dance rehearsals/recitals. I have decently long eyelashes, so I never really understood why I would add more lashes on top of it. Plus, who wants to wear a dramatic lash to the grocery store? It just didn’t seem logical to me. I, however, was looking into trying new things and branching out my beauty collection, so I got this eyelash kit from Target for $5.99. I figured the price was right, and the lashes didn’t look too dramatic to try out for everyday use here and there. I have worn them once and I can say, I really like them! While I still can’t see myself applying fake lashes everyday of my life, they are extremely comfortable, easy to apply, and look more natural than most fake lashes out there. And, I love that it comes with an application tool because the first two times I ever tried applying fake lashes, I didn’t have a tool or a clue on how do successfully do this. So, for all you beginners out there, look no further! This kit is for you!

Covergirl Clean Professional Loose Powder for Normal Skin: 105 Translucent Fair

After my total fail with the Rimmel pressed powder mentioned above, I went back to my tried and true loose powder from Covergirl. My mom uses this product, so when I first started exploring with makeup, this is a product that I knew I had to get for myself since it was so consistent in her beauty routine. For less than $6.00 this is a product I believe should totally be a staple in your beauty routine. It gives you a smooth, airbrushed finished while still remaining lightweight and fresh-feeling. For me, it goes so far as to reduce any shine that may pop through as the day goes on, and evens out my skin tone. So, for now, I am back to my #1 and can’t see myself straying away or trying new things for a while now [or at least until this product runs out completely].

What are some of your beauty faves and flops? xoxo

Popular makeup products totally worth the hype

It feels like every single day the beauty community grows larger and larger. Whether it’s brands themselves, beauty bloggers on YouTube, or people like you and me who enjoy exploring makeup, there are always new products being talked about and shared for others to see. What’s crazy, though, is that amongst new product releases that occur everyday, there are some ride or die products that never shy too far away from the spotlight.

I will be one to admit that I have purchased products that were hyped by beauty bloggers just to see what I had been missing. Hearing of products over and over again makes me want nothing more than to get my hands on these products solely for the fact that I wanted to, in a sense, belong. While I have found that some of these products totally aren’t worth the hype or, in some cases, the expense, there are a handful or products that are totally worth every penny!

L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara

This product has been reviewed everywhere from Tati to Jeffree Star to RachhLoves. Some have even gone so far as to call it the best drugstore mascara ever, and honestly, I might have to agree. It took me what felt like forever to get my hands on this product. My local Ulta and Target were sold out of it [except the waterproof formula] for quite some time, but when I was finally able to use this product, I became obsessed. The formula is  adds serious volume and length to your lashes and comes in four shades – blackest black, mystic black, black, and black brown. The best part, though, is that you can get killer lashes for just $9.99 at Ulta!

Maybelline FaceStudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter

I swear, you cannot enter into the YouTube beauty community without hearing about this product. I first heard about it from Nicol Concilio but, again, it has been reviewed by beauty bloggers far and wide. I had never been a huge fan of highlighters, much to blame for never having found a shade that I really, really loved. Enter Master Chrome. This product is amazing. If I am being honest, I didn’t get this product until last week. I wanted to try to escape this hype but I really just couldn’t, I ended up having to give in and try for myself. The formula is so beyond creamy and it applies super smooth without adding a single ounce of texture to your face. The color, molten gold, is absolutely to die for. And, it is buildable, so you can highlight as subtle or as glam as you want. Doing so much as throw a little bit on the tip of my nose adds a fresh, healthy glow to my skin. Can’t beat it for the low price of $9.99 at Ulta, either!

Kylie Jenner Matte Liquid Lip Kits

Ugh, the lip kits. When Kylie announced the launch of her brand, the world basically exploded. Between the hype and then the drama and more hype and more buzz, you couldn’t go a single day without hearing about Kylie Cosmetics. I bought my very first Kylie lip kit on their second launch a long time ago. The shade was Exposed and I fell completely in love with the formula and the longevity of the wear. The lipstick dries down completely matte and basically suction cups itself to your face for the next 5 years of your life. Now, it is extremely, extremely rare that I would fall in love and purchase multiple of a product that is so expensive. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? Plus you get a liquid lipstick and a lip liner, so two for the price of one, right? [Don’t mind me trying to justify the heck out of these purchases, guys].The killer of these $29.00 lip kits is that you have to pay for them to be shipped to your house since you can’t buy them in store, only on kyliecosmetics.com, bumping up the already pricey product even more. I will admit that I got sucked in for quite some time, there, because I ended up with multiple products in my collection, seven to be exact. In the lip kits I have the shades Exposed, Leo, Posie K, and Spice. I also picked a gloss in the shade Like, and two metal matte liquid lipsticks in the shades Heir and Kymagesty [this shade was a freebie when I bought the Spice lip kit]. I will say that I have worn every single shade on multiple occasions, and every time I do, I get a compliment or questions about my lip product – another plus. She has since added so many more products to her cosmetics line, including new lip formulas, that I have not tried. Maybe one day, but for now, I’ll stick with what I love!

The Jaclyn Hill Palette

I will start this blurb out by saying, you all should know my love for this product based on the fact that I didn’t do just one but two posts on this palette. Before this product was even officially launched for sale, social media was booming. Jaclyn herself did numeous tutorials on this product [duh, it’s her own] as well as many other members of the YouTube beauty community alike. I became obsessed before it was even added to my collection. I was able to get my hands on this on the third restock and I have never refreshed my phone so much as when I did while trying to track this package. When I opened it up to use for the first time, I swear beams of light poured out of this packaging and there were faint sounds of angels singing in the background. This palette is breathtaking. You can see the amount of hard work that went into this palette; the color scheme, the formula, everything. I reach for and use this palette every single day of my life. For $38.00 you get 35 colors, making it $0.92 per pan. And a bonus, Morphe’s recent partnership with Ulta means this palette will be available for a very long time, and when I finally need to get my hands on a new one, I won’t have to fight the clock like I did the last time!

What are some popular beauty items that you think totally live up to the hype? xoxo.

Ride or dies | Beauty

One thing I’ve been really into reading lately revolves around everyone’s morning beauty routines. I find that posts like this are so informative, and help me, in a sense, to get to know the person I am reading about. It is these posts that introduce me to new products and get me looking into whether or not some of these beauty items are ones that I should try sometime in the near future.

Working where I do, I do not put much makeup on. Some days, not any at all. But, the days that I do decide to put some makeup on, it is very, very minimal at best. I don’t really get into a full face of “glam” unless it is the weekend, or there is somewhere that I have to be that requires me to look significantly better than a dead fish. When it comes to the makeup I use, my everyday routine consists of using products that have been around for some time. These products are probably ones that you have heard of or used before, but I can’t find myself stepping outside of my “comfort zone” because I know what works for me, so why change it?!

Makeup Products I Use Everyday

  • Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Instant Perfecting Power Primer. This product runs for $14.00 at the drugstore. When it comes to primers, I find myself bouncing back and forth between this product and Benefit’s POREfessional Face Primer While I really enjoy Benefit’s primer, I can’t always justify spending the $31.00 when Soap and Glory’s primer works just as well for me for more than half the price. Plus, I love that Soap and Glory is now sold at Target too!
  • Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation in the shade 115 Ivory. This product runs for $7.99 at the drugstore. I am not going to lie to you, I only started wearing foundation about a year ago. I purchased it because I had a wedding coming up and also had a coupon to use for Ulta. I am also not going to lie to you when I say that this is the only foundation I have ever bought and used. The only thing that has changed is the shade depending on my skin tone from summer to winter. While I do realize that there is so much more out there in the world of foundation, I really have that, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” attitude. It does its’ job and [major perk], it doesn’t wear off throughout the day, all while being an affordable price.
  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in the shade 15 Light. This product runs for $6.99 at the drugstore. Again, this is the first and only concealer I have ever purchased. Also again, the only thing that has changed about my concealer is the shade depending on my skin tone from summer to winter. I purchased this because it came from the same line as the foundation and I figured, “hey, why not?”
  • NYX Matte Liquid Liner in the shade Black. This product runs for $6.99 at the drugstore. Unlike my foundation and concealer, I have tried a handful of eyeliners over time. Most recently, this has been my go-to; I find myself reaching for this every single morning. It is easy to apply and stays put all day. And the shade is an absolute opaque black that looks great on “naked” eyelids, as well as eyelids that are covered with every color of the rainbow.
  • Lancôme Hypnose Drama Instant Full Volume Mascara in the shade Excessive Black. This product runs for $27.50 at Ulta. I most recently started using this product, just within this past week to be exact. My grandma uses Lancôme mascara and the beauty tech gave her the wrong formula so, it found its’ way into my hands. I rarely buy any luxury makeup items as I struggle with justifying paying the price for something that you can get for significantly cheaper, so I will be honest with you when I say that I wish I didn’t love this product so much because I will be purchasing this again. I was not blessed with the longest eyelashes and this mascara elongates my lashes so much that it looks like I have a pair of fake eyelashes on, or even eyelash extensions. I am absolutely obsessed.
  • e.l.f. Cosmetics Perfect Finish HD Powder in the shade Sheer. This product runs for $6.00 at the drugstore. I am currently in the process of finding a good finishing powder and have most recently landed upon this one. I don’t really love it that much, but I don’t hate it either. It is just what I have been reaching for within this past month or so because it is the product I have handy at the moment. There is some flashback with this powder as well, not that I really take flash photos. But for those of you that do, beware.
  • Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer in the shade Light Bronzer. This product runs for $14.99 at the drugstore. I will scream from the rooftops with every ounce of my being the amount of love I have for this product. First off, the smell. You get one whiff and it smells like summer and the beach and warmer weather and being on a secluded island. The product itself works wonders. It gives you the perfect sunkissed glow without looking orange or like you spent 8 hours getting a spray tan. I most recently hit pan on my most recent compact, and I am looking forward to buying this product again in the future!
  • L’Oréal Brow Stylist Definer in the shade Brunette. This product runs for $8.99 at the drugstore. I most recently bought my first eyebrow pencil when I had a waxing experience gone wrong. It does its’ job and makes it look as if I do not have a gaping hole in my eyebrow. So, I am thankful for that.
  • Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1. This product runs for $7.00 at Sephora. I struggle so bad in the winter months when it comes to chapped lips. They get so bad that they get to the point of bleeding and being extremely painful. After years of trying different things, this is the one that has finally worked for me! I apply it multiple times throughout the day and it is a miracle worker. Seriously, it never leaves my purse!

Makeup Tools I Use Everyday

  • Morphe Flawless Beauty Sponge. This product runs for $7.00 at Ulta. I don’t really have a favorite when it comes to beauty sponges. My most recent purchase is Morphe’s and I really enjoy it! I didn’t get my hands on one until Morphe started being sold at Ulta. Plus for $7.00, you can’t beat the price! I have tried the whole foundation brush thing, but I can’t seem to get into it. I really love the way my makeup looks when I use this beauty sponge, so for now, I will stick with it.
  • it Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder Brush #8. This product runs for $48.00 at Ulta. This brush was given to me, I did not purchase it on my own. I can’t really seem to justify spending $48.00 on makeup, let alone a makeup brush, but because I have this brush, I use it everyday. Truthfully, I wouldn’t recommend spending the money on a brush when there are much cheaper options available that work just as well!
  • it Cosmetics Airbrush Essential Bronzer Brush #114. This product runs for $26.00 at Ulta. Same as with the ball powder brush, this product was given to me as a gift. I really like using this product, as it blends my bronzer in perfectly. However, again, I would not recommend spending a ton of money on a brush when there are cheaper options available!

What are some products that you reach for every single day and cannot live without? xoxo.

When doesn’t Ulta Beauty drain my bank account?. . a memoir

I will start off this post by saying that technically I didn’t go into Ulta to shop for myself. However, some of the deals on Black Friday were a teensy bit too good for me to pass up and naturally, I had to make a purchase.

It is no secret to anyone on this blog that I have a new-found love for makeup. While I rarely wear makeup Monday thru Friday thanks to my often increased levels of sweat at my job, I am no stranger to it on the weekends, or even to evening events, dates, whenever I want to feel good about myself, etc.

Fast forward to the information that actually matters.. my Ulta shopping haul. I will make it known right here and now that until I got to the cashwrap and saw the massive display of Morphe Cosmetics, I only had one thing in my shopping bag. But, thanks to some peer pressure from my boyfriend to “treat myself on your first Black Friday,” here we are with enough makeup to do a mini-store haul.

Item #1: Smashbox Studio to Go Eyes

This $10 bundle was way too good to pass up, mostly because never in my life have I tried anything from Smashbox, but also because getting a $27 value for $10 is incredible. In this mini bundle, you receive a 0.06oz Photo Op Eye Shadow Single in the shade Nude, as well as a 0.02oz Deluxe Size Always on Gel Liner in Fishnet (black). Since I bought this bundle, I have worn this on my eyes every single day. The shadow goes on so smoothly and is so pigmented, and the liner is absolutely to die for – they weren’t kidding when they said it was weightless. I am looking forward to purchasing, for sure, the gel liner in full-size once this mini runs out!

Item #2 : NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream 3 Piece Set

NYX SOFT MATTE LIP CREAM IS MY FAVORITE LIP PRODUCT TO DATE. Did I need the unnecessary caps lock? Yes, yes I did because I need to get the point across to you that not only is this product super affordable, but it stays on all day, feels weightless as ever, and the colors are so pigmented that you feel as if you are wearing a high-end lip product. This bundle was $12, saving $6 from its’ $18 value. Ulta had a wide array of trios available, but my eye went directly to the one I purchased as every single shade of these 0.27oz lippies were new! Austin (a pink shade), Los Angeles (a brown shade), and Warsaw (a purple shade), are all everyday-appropriate and products that I will for sure grab for when I go to complete my look.

Item #3 and #4: Morphe 25A Copper Spice and 25B Bronzed Mocha Eyeshadow Palettes

I combined these two items together solely for the fact that what I say about one will directly mimic the other. The Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette was the first product I’ve ever purchased from this brand and, I swear to you on my life, that I have never reached for another eyeshadow palette ever again. Every other palette I own has been pushed aside or tucked away in makeup storage due to their sub-par quality as compared to Morphe’s pigment, bendability, and creamy color. So, much to my [pleasant] surprise, when I saw Morphe at the cashwrap, it all went down. I picked up these two eyeshadow palettes for a discounted price of $12 a piece. I fell head-over-heels in love with these palettes. The 25A Copper Spice Eyeshadow Palette (top photo) ranges from deep browns and spicy cream shades to fiery metallic and shimmery taupe shades. This palette is perfect for either an extremely neutral to an all out smoky look. The 25B Bronzed Mocha Eyeshadow Palette (bottom photo) ranges from glimmering bronze shades to rich mocha and burgundy shades while having the perfect balance of matte and shimmer. This wide range allows for looks that fit perfectly for any occasion or any lifestyle.

What are some of your most-recent makeup finds? xoxo.

What’s in my bag? | Volume II

All bag carriers, unite!

I know, I know. You’re probably all thinking, *really, another bag haul.. didn’t she just do this?* The answer: a month ago, yes. But a lot changes in a month [bag included], and I figured it was time for you to see the unnecessary crap I am carrying in my bag this month! So stick around – it’s gonna be a great time!

The bag:

YALUXE Women’s Vintage Style Soft Leather Work Tote Large Shoulder Bag | I got this handbag as a gift from my honey on our anniversary. I told him I had wanted a larger bag to carry all my things in for work that looked a little more professional, but wasn’t too expensive, as it gets shoved in a locker everyday. Low and behold, this bag has become the best thing ever. It holds everything I need, it’s stylish, comfortable. It’s great. Find it here.

What’s in it:

  • Kate Spade Cameron Street Lacey wallet | A repeat from last month, but this wallet is my ride or die.
  • Vera Bradley Breakaway Lanyard | Again, a repeat from last month, but how would I get myself into work without it?!
  •  Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Body Lotion in the scent Comfort | Hand creams are my absolute best friend when the weather gets cold and my hands get dry. I had a coupon for a free item *score* and was able to pick up this hand lotion a few weeks ago. Let me tell you, the name does not lie. The vanilla and patchouli mashup makes you feel as if you are wearing a giant sweater and getting the biggest hug. And your hands are left feeling so soft. Totally a 10/10 recommendation.
  • Kiehl’s Facial Fuel No-Shine Moisturizing Lip Balm | Shoutout to my Nana for this one, because she bought me two of these and they are my new obsession. For the last few weeks I have been battling a horrendous sinus/cold sickness, leaving my lips extra chapped due to not being able to breathe through my nose. This has been my lifesaver. Especially at night before I go to bed, it gives me that extra protection.
  • Gloves | For when the cold weather is really too much for me to handle at 8:45am when I am getting students off the bus.
  • Dayquil/Nyquil Combo Tablets | To assist with my aforementioned germiness.
  • e.l.f. Mattifying Setting Powder in the shade Translucent | A repeat from last month, this product has become my ride or die and has helped make me get some life back into my face mid-day.
  • Belvita Breakfast Biscuits | These have been my go-to when I don’t have enough time to make myself breakfast in the morning. I kid you not, literally every single flavor is so good that I never have a consistent one. But, also come in handy when I am left wishing I had an afternoon snack. A little snap of the fingers and *poof* my prayers are answered.
  •  Vaseline | To help with my super-chapped, red nose. Thanks, Kleenex.
  • A pen | For those moments I really need one.
  • Checkbook | To make me feel like I am a functioning adult.
  • Orbit gum | I should really buy stock with them.
  • Vera Bradley Soft Eyeglasses Case | To, you know, hold those things that make me able to see.
  • Asthma inhaler | For those moments that you take my breath away.
  • Keys | To be able to go into my house and lay in my bed, or go into my car and get the heck away.
  • iPhone | Duh.

What are some things you can’t leave the house with? xoxo.

What’s in my bag | Volume I

whats in my bag

I come from a family of purse hoarders. Not solely in the sense of purchasing bags, but filling these bags with items that are not really necessarily for everyday functioning, leaving said bag weighing 35 pounds and causing back problems.

With that being said, welcome to a new thread of posts hilighting the things I carry around on a daily basis. While my bag does not weigh 35 pounds, I hope that shedding light on all of the unnecessary things I carry on a daily basis will help me to eliminatesome of this clutter in the near future.

The bag:

Kate Spade Emerson Place Small Ryley Black Quilted Leather Handbag | I got this handbag as an absolute steal amidst my small stint working at the Kate Spade Outlet during last year’s holiday season. We would get select merchandise from the retail stores sent to us from time to time and were able to use our insane employee discount on these ridiculously gorgeous, expensive bags. This specific bag lasted a whole, I’d say, 3 minutes on the shelf in the stockroom before I made it mine.

What’s in it:

  • Kate Spade Cameron Street Lacey wallet | Again, a purchase during my short stint as a Kate Spade employee. This wallet is my absolute fav due to the fact that a) it holds everything, and b) it’s big enough to use as a clutch in times where I don’t feel like lugging a bag around. And, extra points, it holds my phone!
  • Bath and Body Works Shea Butter hand cream in the scent Cucumber Melon | With the changing weather comes the cracked, dry hands. This travel size shea butter hand cream is a god send for those days when my hands don’t quite feel like they can make it through another moment! And cucumber melon? Brings me straight back to the ’90s!
  • Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade Exposed | My go-to nude lip. It goes with any possible look and compliments my skin tone perfectly. I keep this in my bag at all times for those days that I either forget to put on a lipstick, or when later on during the day I am questioning my sanity as to why I didn’t wear a lip color in the first place.
  • Vera Bradley Breakaway Lanyard | aka home to my work I.D. and a Bath and Body Works hand sanitizer in the scent Energy, another favorite of mine from BBW.
  • Chapstick Total Hydration chapstick in the scent Sweet Peach | I apply this to my lips every morning before work and every night before bed, and sometimes a few hours in-between. This scent is apparently specifically made for Target, so naturally, I own it. And the formula? Feels like butter. Can’t get much better.
  • e.l.f. Mattifying Setting Powder in the shade Translucent | For those afternoon pick-me-ups that are needed after chasing kids around a classroom all day. It’s cheap, the packaging is durable, and it does its’ job.
  • A pen | Can’t leave the house without one. Mostly because the thought of touching everyone else’s germy pens really grosses me out.

The day I tried to do my makeup like Jaclyn Hill!

As previously documented on my blog, I was one of the lucky ones to get my hands on the Jaclyn Hill palette. Sure, I’ve done some playing around myself with this palette, totally pretending that I am a makeup guru on YouTube and a total professional at this art. But the reality is, I’m just a girl in front of a dirty mirror with bad lighting who pokes herself in the eye with her mascara every. single. day.

Naturally, my inner fangirl was reeling when my girl Jaclyn posted a makeup tutorial on her YouTube channel using her palette that she considered her go-to, so I figured, hey, must be easy to have a go-to label! If you’re not feeling watching the video, the look can be seen below –

Granted, it was my first try at this look so I know there was absolutely no way in hell I would come anything close to looking like the queen herself. Let’s just say I am happy I carved out a chunk of my time to work on this and take my time! To achieve one look, this girl used nine colors from her palette.

The shades used were: silk cream, butter, pukey, buns, mocha, pooter, central park, enlight, and abyss. That is literally one fourth of her palette – today I was overwhelmed is a gross under-exaggeration.

Did my final look resemble that of Jaclyn’s? Truthfully, not really. Mine came out more orange-y than hers, but I still think I did pretty damn good for how hard I tried [and my first try at that]! My final result can be seen below –

I paired this look with the e.l.f. Day to Night lipstick duo in the shade Need it Nudes. I layered both ends of the lipstick duo together!

What I ended up getting out of this video was even more respect for these ladies and men out here putting on faces full of makeup in front of a camera day in and day out because, damn. Not only is it time consuming, but it is sheer talent to be able to achieve some of the looks they do.

What are some of your favorite go-to looks? xoxo.

Jaclyn Hill can do no wrong.

Guys, I did it.

I got my hands on the Jaclyn Hill x Morphe palette.

It took until the third restock to get my hands on this beauty, but you know what they say, third time’s the charm!

For those of you unfamiliar with the goddess that is Jaclyn Hill, she is a beauty blogger/vlogger/YouTuber who is not only drop dead gorgeous, but has the kindest heart and sweetest personality. Also ton be added to her ‘”resume,” she is basically the sole reason that I somewhat know how to apply makeup to my face.

When she announced the creation/launch of her eyeshadow palette collaboration with Morphe cosmetics, it only made sense to me that I had to add this to my ever-growing makeup collection. As stated before, it took me three times to get my hands on this palette, three.

On the morning of restock number three, I literally was so much of a lame-o that I sat by my phone/computer waiting for the clock to strike 11:00am. I kid you not, the second the clock turned to the golden hour, my hands moved quicker than I had ever seen them move before. And I did it. I got it.

I got my palette in the mail on Saturday, almost a week ago, and after playing around with it, I can now see why this is in such high demand. For $38, you get 35 colors, making that a super-affordable $0.92 per pan. I have reached for this palette every single day since I received it – the amount of looks that you can create are endless due to the wide variety of colors. The formula is so creamy, easily bendable, and the colors are gorgeous to a whole new degree.

[You can see Jaclyn go into detail about her palette here.]

It is my only wish for everyone to be able to get their hands on this palette one day or another, and for everyone to be able to work with this on their own and create their own unique makeup looks. Totally worth the wait, totally a deal, totally perfect. Makeup lovers or not, this is a staple. xoxo.

Maybe she’s born with it.. never mind, it’s probably another post about makeup.

First off, hey guys! I have three days vacation from work and I am taking these three days to type my little fingers off and get some new blog posts rollin’.

First post of the many ahead are focused on my most-recent trip to Ulta. I went in to purchase some of my trusty Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless foundation, as I had waited too long to pick up a new bottle, and I found myself to be completely bone dry. Much to my surprise, my local Ulta was sold out of my shade *cries* but did that stop me from continuing to shop around? Of course not.

I didn’t quite know what I was looking for, but it had been over a month and a half *gasps* since I had been in there, so I figured, why not? I had some free time to kill to myself, although I really should have been at Wegmans picking up the ingredients for the dessert I was planning to make for my family reunion [more on that later].

If you know me, you know I am a drugstore cosmetic girl. I can never seem to justify spending a lot of money on makeup. Yes, the higher the price the higher the quality, but I could never seem to take the plunge [minus one Tarte liquid lipstick, but that’s only because they had the exact shade I was looking for to match an outfit], mostly because I always had a feeling that once I started on the high-end makeup trail, I would never want to go back.

But, thanks to the show Parks & Recreation, I went into full “treat yo’ self” mode and took a very small plunge.

My first high-end purchase was the Dream Big palette from Tarte Cosmetics.

This limited-edition eyeshadow palette has 8 shades destined to motivate and inspire your inner glam-getter [as per Tarte’s website]. The palette contains two matte and six shimmer shades ranging from dark to light, essentially making it a palette that I would reach for on a daily basis due to the unlimited amount of makeup looks you can create.

When I watched the shades in-store, I appreciated the creamy texture of the formula, but it wasn’t until I got home and actually used the palette on my eyes that I appreciated this formula. The eyeshadow shades are super pigmented and super easy to blend out, making me appreciate the difference between high-end and drugstore products. I always thought what I had was incredible, until I tried this, and I haven’t reached for anything else since! This palette runs for $30.

I also picked up an Ulta brand lipstick on my way out in the shade 254 Rosey Glow, a light rosy pink with slight shimmer. I love Ulta’s lipsticks, and their nude line is absolutely to die for. The shades are soft and neutral and they go with anything or any skin tone. This lipstick runs for $8.50, but since I also picked up a new beauty blender, I was able to use my store coupon!

What are some new makeup items you’ve tried recently? I’d love to know! xoxo.

Things I’m currently obsessed with, 6.0

  1. LANY. I know what you’re thinking, “another band made up of boys?!?!” The answer? Yes. All things yes. This band has been active since 2014, but it wasn’t until recently that I started tuning into their material, and let me tell you, I have become head over heels obsessed. I keep telling everyone I know to listen to their music and have turned into basically their marketing manager overnight??! All I know is, I haven’t listened to anything in my car other than their album, LANY, for about three weeks now. I am undoubtedly hooked. Check out one of their songs here.
  2. Baby Daddy. I didn’t start watching this show when it was trendy, same story goes for most shows I watch, but it popped up on Netflix a while back and my brother and his girlfriend were huge fans. I jumped in a couple times and watched with them, and suddenly it only made sense that I watched it from the beginning of the series. Now, here I am, with a new season out on Netflix that I finished in [not kidding] one day. If you need a good laugh or a little pick me up, check it out. You won’t be disappointed.
  3. Chobani Flip Coffee Brownie Bliss. Coffee flavored greek yogurt with biscotti pieces, milk chocolate, and brownie chunks. Need I say more? Personally, I love crunchy items in foods and its no surprise that I drink enough coffee to fill my body head to toe, so I feel as if Chobani dug deep into my soul and crafted this yogurt just for me. In their defense, however, I haven’t had a Chobani greek yogurt I haven’t liked, so there you go.
  4. e.l.f Double Ended Lipstick Duo in the shade Need it Nudes. I picked this up one weekend in Rochester with my boyfriend when I had forgotten a lipstick *gasps* at Target. I thought it was interesting to have two lipsticks included in the same wand, but much to my surprise, this has been the lipstick(s) I have been reaching for first. There were five options to choose from, but I got the nude shade(s) making it go with virtually everything in my wardrobe. The day end is a soft nude shade, whereas the night end is a bit bolder. The formula is sooooo creamy, it doesn’t dry my crusty lips out to the core. And, bonus? It was only $5! [$5 for two lipsticks…that’s almost unheard of].
