Catfishing….why?

desk2.jpg

Unless you live under a rock, you have to know what catfishing is. I, like I am sure most people, get sucked into the madness that is Catfish, the TV show on MTV. Just this morning, as a matter of fact, I have been sitting here watching this show for hours.

I don’t know if it is because I am semi-old or because I have a little pinch of common sense, but I really just don’t get this entire thing at all.

Firstly, I don’t know why anyone would become friends online with a stranger that they have never met that lives states or countries away. Secondly, I don’t know how you can whole heartedly trust someone that you have never met face to face. Thirdly, I don’t know how you can keep trusting people or be in a relationship with them for years on end without getting so much as a phone call or a video chat. Our society has fabricated this entire phenomenon to the point that it is more common than not, and I am left wondering…why?

I, for one, would be absolutely terrified to open up to someone that I do not know. But these people on this show, just this morning alone, have been in relationships, sent money, expressed true feelings of love to a stranger. Heck, the one girl found out the guy she was talking to was a fugitive on the run who escaped to an island off the coast of Alaska and she was sending him hundreds of thousands of dollars! Normal, right?

On the flip side, I am wondering what makes someone wake up one morning and decide to make a fake profile, meet people online, use them for years, and feel no remorse whatsoever. Or even if their feelings are real, how they continue to lie and carry on about a life they do not have or a person they are not.

It’s one of those shows that I cannot turn away from once it is on because I just don’t understand it at all. I am left wondering how and why people are so naive. It honestly makes me afraid for my future children to someday be plopped into this world because if we have to worry about this stuff now, in 2017, what will we have to worry about in the next few years? Lord only knows. xoxo.

Things I’m currently obsessed with, 4.0

draked.jpg

It has been a while since I’ve done a post like this, so welcome back! Here’s some things I currently can’t get enough of:

  1. Drake. It’s no secret that Drake dropped his new album, More Life. It is also no secret that I am absolutely, whole-heartedly obsessed with Drake. What made my soul beam from the mountaintops is the fact that Drake literally gave Niagara Falls and Buffalo a quick little shoutout in his song ‘Can’t Have Everything.’ That’s just one gem off this 22 song album, so I suggest you go listen.
  2. The Mindy Project. I realize that I am probably a little behind on this trend, as I usually am when it comes to TV shows. I just recently in the last couple of months signed up for Hulu and was introduced to a whole entire new world of TV and movies that I normally would never give the light of day, The Mindy Project being one of them. This show is absolutely freaking hilarious and is the prefect little pick me up if you need a good laugh on a day when you would just rather a) cry or b) kill someone.
  3. Mediterranean Veggie Burgers. This past weekend, my boyfriend brought up the topic of veggie burgers a handful of times [for God knows what reason], so I decided to try it out. I went to my nearest Wegmans and picked up a pack of Morning Star Mediterranean Chickpea Burgers. They are made with chickpeas, spinach, and roma tomatoes and contain 10g of protein, 7g of fiber, and 70% less fat than ground beef. I paired them with red pepper hummus and a little onion on a whole wheat flatbread. Ahhhhmazing.
  4. Blistex Lip Medex Lip Protectant. This winter has absolutely killed my lips in terms of dryness. I am struggling to even wear any lipsticks out of my way too large collection because my lips get so dry, that they physically hurt. So far, this Blister is the absolute only thing that has worked for me. My lips are moisturized and they look healthy. Plus it is under $2, so everyone wins!

Cleanses, good for the soul?!

After a long weekend full of St. Patrick’s day themed adventures, I could not be any happier to be in my bed at 9:26pm on a Monday night.

I mean, how could you not participate in St. Paddy’s activities when your city has been named the #1 place to celebrate by USA Today?

Since Thursday, it seems as if I haven’t eaten anything that was not classified as fast food or had a drink that didn’t have at least one drop of alcohol in it. Today, it all hit me like a train zooming down the tracks at dance class. I felt disgusting, tired, and fat, and like I never wanted to eat another slice of pizza ever again. [Disclaimer: this will probably never happen].

So, here I am looking up ways to do a much needed detox. So far, here’s what I’ve found:

  1. Chug lemon water. Or if lemon doesn’t float your boat, use cucumber.
  2. Raw foods rock. Even juice cleanses are considered a raw food diet.
  3. Sweat it out. Exercise until you feel like you’re going to vomit.
  4. Meditate to reduce stress and increase body function.
  5. Cut sugar intake.
  6. Drink tea, not coffee.
  7. Go for the foods labeled organic.

If you have any tips on how to detox, or know anything that has worked for you/a friend/a neighbor, hit a girl up. I am ready to learn and ready to eliminate these toxins! xoxo.

New hair, who dis??

The two-day hiatus has been a result of work, homework, St. Patrick’s Day, etc. etc. I know that isn’t an excuse but stress got the absolute best of me and mentally I was all over the place. So hello everyone, hope all is well and you didn’t drink too many green beers yesterday.

Today, I woke up early to chop my hair. Literally. My hair is gone but I am obsessed. I already love how low maintenance this haircut is. And the fact that I can still wear my hair in a half-up topknot because as we all know, that’s my go-to. I haven’t really got used to the whole running-my-hands-through-my-nonexistent-hair thing yet (cue Kristen Stewart memes), but I love it. I had my hair cut like this for honestly most of my entire life up until college when I got too lazy to schedule/drive home for a haircut. So I just let it grow and grow and grow up until about a few months ago when I cut it a little shorter. And now, we are here.

My inspiration came from, none other than, Pinterest. Just some random photos that I had saved over the years. For anyone out there wanting to get a new haircut but is too afraid to try it, do it. It is only hair and it will always grow back! xoxo.

Stella, day two.

I sit here in the midst of snow day number two, staring at the clock wondering how it is only 3:21pm. I feel as though it is way past dinnertime, and I am ready for this whole ‘stuck in the house with barely any food and nothing to do’ thing to be over with. My poor little car is so buried deep in the snow, that I am second guessing ever choosing a Honda Civic over some type of Jeep. *facepalm* Plus, I look out the front window and wonder where the front porch went and if I ever really had one in the first place??

stella

One thing good that I can say came from this winter storm is that basically all people of social media have retracted from their strong political beliefs, and have stayed focused on nothing but the endless piles of snow outside. *whew*

On an even brighter note, I [being extremely, extremely behind] finally started the Gilmore Girls revival series. I was waiting for my mom to finish up the original series on Netflix so we could watch the revival together and, so far, we have gotten through two out of the four episodes. Stay tuned for my overall reaction of the revival series once I’ve completed it, because I already have a feeling I will have a lot to say.

Other than that, I have nothing creative in my mind to write about today, as I have been doing nothing but work on my 80 page [not even exaggerating] research paper/project. So, I feel somewhat creatively and mentally drained. Until tomorrow. xoxo.

Stella.

Well, it happened. Winter storm Stella hit Western New York. Both my university and the school that I work at were on the list of 430+ closed for a snow day *yikes*. I knew before I went to bed last night so, thankfully, I got to sleep in a little bit this morning! When I woke up, I did not expect it to be bad but let me tell you, it has not stopped snowing. I mean, this is literally what I see right now:

So, with no stopping in sight anytime soon for us peeps being hit by this storm, here’s a few things you can do to cure your boredom!

  1. Binge watch Netflix or Hulu. Today, I actually got to catch up on some of my shows! And in a big way! I was able to watch the entire new second season of the Netflix original, Love. I also made some major progress on my newest obsession, The Mindy Project, on Hulu. There is nothing better [at least to me] than cozying up on the couch with a bunch of blankets and a hot cup of coffee.
  2. Complete, or get ahead, on assignments. In grad school, I constantly find myself ‘behind’ on my work. I use the term behind very loosely because I am never actually behind, it just feels that way because of all the work that constantly gets piled on day in and day out. Take a day like today with no interruptions and crank out some A+ work! And if you’re all caught up, nothing better than getting ahead!
  3. Organize. It seems like the only time I ever get the motivation to organize my makeup, my clothes, or my room in general, is when I am absolutely bored out of my skull. Use this time wisely!
  4. Online shopping. If you got it, flaunt it. Money, that is. Why not take some of this extra time to treat yourself?! You’ve been working hard. Maybe it’s time you actually bought yourself that top or that eyeshadow palette you’ve been swooning over for weeks! And a major perk of online shopping, you don’t even have to leave the warmth of your own bed!
  5. Bake something sweet or cook a nice dinner. If your significant other, roommate, or BFF wasn’t one of the lucky ones to have today off, I’m sure walking into a nice treat like a hot home cooked meal, or a delicious dessert will perk them up after trekking through the snow all day!

What are some ways you cure your boredom on days like today?! xoxo.

P.S. Anyone at work, out and about, traveling, etc. today, please stay safe!

Walkin’ in a winter wonderland?!

So, unless you have been living under a rock, you probably have heard about this gnarly snow storm about to hit the Northeastern U.S. Well, of course, this is where I live. And, of course, of course, I am not happy about it.

Living in Western New York, I should be happy that this is the first major warning we’ve gotten this year. It took until now for this 12′-18′ winter storm warning crap to hit us when, usually, we’re about a handful of winter storms into the season by mid-March. But, I am spoiled. So, again, I am not happy.

I ran to Wegmans today to grab a couple things and people were stocking up on groceries like the zombie apocalypse was ahead of us. It always makes me laugh because people always prepare for terrible weather around here and it ends up being completely blown out of proportion and we get 0.00008 inches of snow or rain or etc.

Tomorrow I have an 11 hour work day ahead of me, so I will be inside for the majority of this alleged storm. But, I would much rather be in my bed wrapped in a blanket, watching Netflix. [HOWEVER, perks of my new job: I could have a snow day!].

Hopefully all these weathermen and women are wrong and it will be 65 and sunny tomorrow. Cross your fingers. xoxo.
