Donuts, fried chicken + beer.. what more could you want out of life?!

So for those of you who don’t know, my boyfriend is from Rochester, New York. With the creation of this blog as well as this blog’s Instagram page, I have tried to keep in tune with local business from both Buffalo and Rochester solely for the fact that these are the two places we spend almost all of our time.

Upon scrolling through Instagram a few months back, I found this amazingly cute little cafe and fell in love with looking at all of their pictures of food. Last Sunday when Jon and I were home to see his family, we made the trek into the city of Rochester to check out BXCR.

Let me just tell you…we are already counting down the days until we can go back! *ahem, eight days* It is just that great!

Aside from killer cold brew, this cafe has donuts that are absolutely to die for. Some options are even vegan friendly! On the day we went, their selection of donuts ranged from cannoli to trail mix all the way to maple bacon. I practically begged my boyfriend to try a donut, being the non-donut lover that he is, and to watch him eat an entire donut and enjoy it was the hilight of my life!

As if coffee and donuts isn’t enough for you, their menu goes so far as to include fried chicken sandwiches which comes with a side of a cornbread donut [which we will be trying next time!!], salads, mac and cheese, and even waffles on a stick. And what’s a chicken sandwich without an ice cold beer?! Well, you’re in luck because they have a wide selection on tap.

And as if it does not get any better, I learned that if you get them to cater an event for you, they bring a literal wall of donuts. [Picture taken from their website]

If you are from Buffalo or any part of WNY, I beg to you, make the damn drive to Rochester. Think Paula’s Donuts times 8 million. I never thought I’d say that, but it’s true. I promise, you won’t regret it.

What to TryEverything!

Wednesday aesthetic.

My weeks cycle in a pretty continuous pattern as they progress from one to the next. On Wednesdays, my days are usually pretty relaxed.

  • Wake up.
  • Chug coffee.
  • Eat breakfast.
  • Chug more coffee.
  • Go to school.
  • Do homework.
  • Grab food.
  • Do more homework.
  • Drive to Buffalo.
  • Hangout with my boyfriend.
  • Pass out.

Having some consistency is pretty good, but sometimes it can seem pretty repetitive or boring. So today to change it up a little bit, I decided to grab lunch at my not-so-usual spot, Bagel Jay’s. I am a huge fan of their food, so I am practically drooling all over again as I write this post.

After looking at their ginormous menu, I had decided on an Albuquerque Turkey sandwich. This sandwich contains roasted turkey, red pepper jalapeño schemer, lettuce, and tomato. I got it on an everything bagel [not toasted], with a side of potato salad. My favorite part of Bagel Jay’s lunch is that their sandwiches come with a crisp, dill pickle. I mean, just look at this thing. I am obsessed.

If you are from the WNY area and you have not been there, go. If you are from WNY and have not been there in a while, go. If you are from WNY and were just there yesterday, or today for that matter, go again. You won’t be disappointed.

Also, if you want to be a part of my crazy little story time via Twitter, enjoy this little text thread and laugh along with me. xoxo.

**This is not sponsored, I just really love good food.

Oatmeal, milk + honey.

Back in October, my boyfriend and I had taken a little weekend trip to Ellicottville, New York to celebrate our anniversary. Anyone who knows Ellicottville knows that it is the cutest little small town with some of the most gorgeous scenery. It’s typically a go-to for the winter, as they are a popular destination for the skiing and snowboarding communities, alike. I had never been in the fall before and was blown away by the beauty of nature around me. I mean, come on. Look at this view!

Anywho, the one day we took a walk around town, we wandered into one of the little boutique-y stores filled with antique goods, soaps, unique jewelry, and candles. Let me just put it out there now, we love candles. We are guilty of going crazy at Bath and Body Works’ $8 candle sale and have so many candles around the apartment that an outsider might think were a couple of pyromaniacs.

So, when we saw a wall of candles, we were in our own mini heaven. As we started exploring the different scents, the owner of the boutique gave us some background on how amazing these candles are! The brand is called Milkhouse Candle Company. They are a company originated in Iowa, who started making candles as a candle.jpghobby – they used canned jars purchased at local auctions! The candles are made from pure beeswax and natural soybeans that are grown right in Midwest America. The product itself is so cute – the smaller 5oz candles are canned in a cream jar, the 8oz candles are canned in a milk bottle, and the 16oz and 22oz candles are canned in a butter jar. The burn on these candles is soooo clean and the scents are to die for! We went with the 16oz Oatmeal, Milk & Honey and we love it. The entire apartment smells wonderful for days at a time!

I would highly recommend this brand of candles to anyone looking to make their entire house feel soothed and smell amazing. xoxo.
